There are three ways we can 
section the brain: the coronal, 
horizontal and sagittal planes. 

Under the scalp and cranium, we 
find the three maters (Latin: 
mother): 
 
dura (hard) 
pia (tender) 
arachnoid (spiderlike) 

The brain is symmetrical about 
the midsagittal plane.
