The British Government took up some welfare activities such as introducing Assamese language and literature in Calcutta University's entrance exam syllabus, opening bachelor degrees in all departments in Cotton College, reintroducing Moujadary system in Brahmaputra Valley, and introducing a 20 point settlement of land.
