Looking Glass Self (Cooley, 1902)- the looking-glass-self involves threesteps:
1. How you imagine you appear to the other person 2. How you imagine the judgement of the other person 3. And How you feel about yourself
There are three activities through which the self is developed according to Mead:
Language, Play, Game
allows individual to take on the “role of the other” andallowspeople to respond to his or her own gestures in terms of the symbolizedattitudes of others
Language
the individual is required to internalize the roles of all others who are involved with him or her in the game and must comprehend the rules of the game.
game
individuals take on the roles of other people and pretendtobethose other people in order to express the expectations of significant others. Role-playing helps in the development of self-consciousness andthegeneral development of the self.
Play
According to Mead, the self has two sides:
The concept of “I” and “me”.
