Angiogenesis involves sprouting of new vessels from existing ones and consists of the following steps

  1. Vasodilation
  2. Separation of pericytes
  3. Migration of endothelial cells
  4. Proliferation of endothelial cells
  5. Remodeling into capillary tubes
  6. Recruitment of periendothelial cells
  7. Suppression of endothelial proliferation
